What is DNS?

DNS (Domain Name System) is a hierarchical system used to name all computers, services, and resources that are connected to an internete or a private network. DNS servers maintain a record of what internet sites have matched their IP address (number) to their easy-to-remember addresses. In this respect, DNS is the system that manages and maps the internet. This executive system, which enables the availability of the Internet, has been in existence since the 1980s.
